Our Society

“Just don't be afraid, just keep going on
One step at a time and you can't go wrong…

At first shows were performed over three nights and if booking went well they extended the run by a few nights. Tickets cost ‘two and six pence’ and even then the Society depended on local patrons for funding (one or two pounds was considered a generous amount).

The Society went from strength to strength, performing shows or pantomimes yearly and two shows some years. In 2004, a huge hurdle was successfully cleared when the Society found a new venue in Coláiste Bride after the Athenaeum closed.

Over the years there has been many romances in EMS. One particular Joseph went on to marry one of his ‘brothers’. Occasionally wardrobe malfunctions and embarrassing moments have occurred, including dodgy Velcro fastening on a mermaid’s skirt and flying false teeth and falling off balconies. These have memories go hand in hand with our many triumphs and awards over the years.
