Marian Roche

Marian, a member of Enniscorthy Musical society died at her home on 26 January after a four-year battle with cancer, courageously borne with dignity and determination. Marian joined the society in 1972 and since that time has worn many “hats”: Chairperson 1990-1992; P.R.O, A.I.M.S Rep. and Vice President, a position she held until her death. She also helped the society get a nomination for Front of House in 1984.

She loved to travel around the region to see the various shows. Many of us go to the seminars wherever they are held and she was one of the first to book her place and was usually the last one to bed! Dancing and singing the night away.

The last time Marian was on stage was playing the part of Lady Battersby in “Me And My Girl” in March 2003, but even up until last year still always helped in front of house.

Another one of Marian’s passions was gardening. When her beloved sons were younger they spent most of the summer at their mobile home in Morriscastle (when summers were longer!) often entertaining her musical society friends. During her illness she spent time in St. Luke’s Hospital, she organised a fundraiser for them in The Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy which raised €9000. No one could ever say no to her!

Along with her many friends in the musical society we extend our sympathy to her husband John, sons Paul, John jnr., Brian, Mark and David, sisters Tina McGee and Gerda Murphy from Marian’s native Wicklow, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The society members formed a guard of honour to St. Aidan’s Cathedral and during the mass society member and friend Sally Kelly sang. A moving eulogy was read by son Paul ending with a sustained round of applause, a fitting end to a beautiful, brave, wife, mother, grandmother and true friend, I know, I was one of them. Marian will be missed by so many. May she Rest In Peace.
